On March 27th, the California Department of Public Health’s, Office of Suicide Prevention launched its youth suicide prevention campaign, Never a Bother, at an event with youth, community, Tribal partners from Sierra Native Alliance, and project partner the Center at Sierra Health Foundation, among others.

Never a Bother, part of the state’s Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative, was co-created with more than 400 youth and young adults across California. That includes a youth advisory board and youth from 34 community-based organizations and Tribal entities, who shared their ideas and perspectives to help shape the campaign’s messages and creative direction.

The Never a Bother campaign is part of the state’s ongoing effort to:

  • Increase awareness of suicide warning signs;
  • Build life-saving intervention skills, and
  • Promote help-seeking behavior for youth and young adults — before, during, and after a crisis.

To reach young people — especially populations disproportionately affected by suicide — this campaign will use: traditional advertising, social media, community engagement strategies, and youth co-created content. To learn more about how this campaign centered the youth voice, take a look at this video from our Youth Advisory Board.

We need your help to spread the word about this exciting and important new campaign and the life-saving messages it promotes. Please check out the Never a Bother website and digital toolkit, with social media templates and materials to help you spread the word within your community.

Please visit and share the campaign website Neverabother.org, follow and engage with the social channels below, forward this email, and, most importantly, check in with the youth in your care.
